Route: Muldrow Glacier Traverse
Dates: May 15-June 15
Team Members:
Lori Bennett
Coby Harris
Amy Robinson
Deaby Gregoire
Becky Hansen

Food has been boxed and sent (mid March) via dog sled to Mogonagal pass; a point at the base of the Muldrow Glacier. As for our own personal gear we will carry in on foot approx. 30 miles through less than ideal trail conditions. Our earliest obstacle will be crossing the McKinley Bar; historically treacherous at times fatal.

To endure such a lofty goal our bodies and mind will need to be in optimal condition, our planning and organization tight. After which, only things to hold us back would be weather, injury, or faulty gear.

Any donation would be hugely appreciated. Your company name will show up on our Denali Diva web page and t-shirts [Too late for the shirts] as our revered sponsors.

Hello Diva Fans!!

I just spoke with the Talkeetna Ranger Station this afternoon, and the conditions are doing well:

  • 7 degrees at the base of the mountain
  • Partly Cloudy
  • No extreme conditions
  • 1" of rain last night at 7,000 feet

As most of you heard, there were 3 people evacuated from the mountain, but they were males from Britain -- The Rangers have not heard from the girls, so they must be doing fine.

Any predictions on where they should be by now?? My kids were interested and it's hard to predict.

Anyone want to start a pool on when they Summit???

Will write more soon, and immediately if I hear anything

Chris

Hello! Hot news ! We got a call from the girls!! They are doing great and having great weather! Near perfect conditions, they said! They are at 7300'. The crossing of the McKinley River was a piece of cake - only knee high, so much different than Cobi's last experience of waist deep and floating down the river! I'll bet she was relieved!

They are very tired from carrying all the gear. I guess they had flown into Cantishna instead of Wonder Lake, making the hike 4 miles longer -

According to the horrible connection (and it was on my answering machine), it sounded like they were at the Great Ice Fall, and had gone over the crack well.

They all say Hi and sound wonderful - a big relief to hear the voices and know they are having fun. Amy said they would call in a week and that they expect to summit in 20 days - that will make it around June 12th.

Happily, Chris

Hello!
Yesterday I received a call from Cobi. They are at 8600' and at the base of the Great Ice Fall. They were having a snow storm, so they were taking the day off of climbing and plan to resume today. They said they are having lots of fun, laughing a lot, but being safe and smart. They all said they love you and are thinking a lot about their family and friends. The conditions and events are all near perfect.

Also, The three Mighty Sherpas are back off the mountain. Danielle was by last night and said the trip was great. She told me that their drive out was eventful ~ they were driving Amy's Dad's old Cadillac Convertible and were driving down the highway, hair blowing in the wind, stereo cranked when the engine started steaming!! No problems getting anyone to help, about 10 guys pulled over hoping to help these beautiful women, but Danielle had AAA and the tow truck came to get them - only one problem, not everyone could fit in the truck... yep, you guessed it! They all rode in the convertible!!! On the tow truck!! They said they were saving on fuel!!

So, that is the latest, sounds like all is going well. So far, I have predictions of the 12, 14, and 10th - anyone else care to join? Just e-mail me - we'll get the Divas to donate something for the winner...

Hello Hello everyone!

Amy's Dad, Mark, received a call from our wonderful

Divas on Tuesday and they are doing great! They are at the top of the Great Ice Fall and should be ascending to Karsten's Ridge as we speak. They had 2 days of snow and bad weather that has slowed them down a bit, but things sound great. They had some Ravens eat a few sandwiches!! They can see a group coming up behind them in the distance and Mark found out it is the Knowles Group....

Mark and Jamie met Bradford Washburn and he is extremely impressed with their trip - complimented them on their preparedness, their motivation and really loved the T-shirt that they gave him!! Good to have a hero on our side!!

They all send their love!!

The girls called yesterday!!

They were on Karsten's Ridge, They have been climbing since 12:30am! and now they are planning to hike some gear up to Brown's Tower, and be settled there by today (15,000 elevation). They are all doing good - just tired and wanting to be done - yesterday was 30 days on the mountain. They have had some bad weather, had to sit for 3 days, got 3-4' of snow, so they had to wait and let the snow settle, break their own trails & route find. This set them back a few times. They were frustrated when they met up with a group that left after them, but caught up with them since they were following the Girl's trail!!! They said the entire trip they've had bad, slow conditions.

So, they are concerned about food - they are left with 8 days of food, and if weather and conditions are perfect, they can summit in 5 days. They are considering not being able to summit due to this. In 3 days, they will call me and let me know the plan. If you are planning to meet them at the base camp, or in Talkeetna, call me by Fri/Sat I may know where they will be & when.

I will let you know more as I get information.

Hello!

We just received a call from Cobi and the girls are coming home.

They only have 3 days of food left and the weather has not gotten any better, so they are turning around and should be at the Denali National Park by the 22nd.

If anyone wants to meet them, they will be at the visitor's center the 21st or 22nd - call me!!

Their spirits sounded good, but they sounded really tired - tired of being on the mountain, etc.... But they really were motivated to summit and now know that the reality is, 'The Great One' will not allow it this time!

I will make sure the girls contact all of you, since you have been great followers.

Signing off for now -
Chris
