Oh Thompson Pass - How I love thee! This is where I learned to ski and people from all around the whole flock each Spring to test the limits of powder heli skiing.

You can see the Richardson Hwy and the Worthington Glacier. This pic reminds me of that big lake behind the Thompson Pass heli pad and airport.

You can see Tonsina lake at the top too.

Thompson Pass is one of the most dramatic road sections between Valdez and the Copper River Valley. Weather can change quickly here, but clear days reveal glaciers, high snowfields, waterfalls, and the mountain route that connects Prince William Sound with Interior Alaska highways.

Travelers often use this pass as part of a loop through Valdez, Glennallen, Chitina, and McCarthy. The photo helps orient the drive: Valdez sits below the pass, while the Copper River country opens out to the north and east.

This page also connects the photo tour back to practical travel choices: winter skiing, summer sightseeing, roadside glacier stops, and the long drive from the coast into the valley.
