Chitina alaska

This shows the confluence of the Chitina and Copper rivers at Chitina Alaska. This is where the Ahtna Corp. has fish wheels to harvest the world famous Copper River Red Salmon. Also, all Alaskan residents can enjoy dip net fishing here - It really is amazing to see and experience.

This picture shows the entire length of the McCarthy road. You can see the small yellow dot in the right corner - That's McCarthy Alaska, the eastern entrance to the Wrangell St. Elias National Park and a very cool, historic Alaskan place.

The Chitina and Copper river meeting point is one of the landmarks that makes this valley easy to recognize from the air. It also explains why the area has been important for travel, food, settlement, and stories long before modern visitors began using the McCarthy Road.

From here, travelers can continue toward McCarthy and Kennicott, return toward Glennallen, or follow the Richardson Highway back toward Valdez. Each direction connects to a different part of the Copper River Valley's fishing, mining, and mountain history.
