Now Valdez is famous for lots of things: Gold Rush, Earthquake, Oil Spill, Heli Skiing. Another lesser know claim to fame is 'Ice Climbing'. There are simply tons (100?) of ice climbing routes in the Valdez - Thompson Pass area. Ice Climbers love to party and each year around President's Day, they come to Valdez from all over to do just that. It's called the Valdez Ice Fest .
